Dear Friends of WPUMC,
It is with grief and sadness that I share with you that at the Special Session of the General Conference of the UMC this week in St Louis the Traditional Plan passed by 53% as a way forward for our denomination. This plan does harm and excludes LGBTQIA persons from ministry and blessing and full connection in the UMC. For more information on this special session- http://www.umc.org/topics/general-conference-2019-special-session Much of the plan may be decided as unconstitutional by the Judicial Council and there are other considerations that may invalidate this plan—however, great damage has been done, and the media is picking up on the most harmful pieces of the last three days. We will have to wait to see what the full ramifications are. For more information about the Judicial Council- http://www.umc.org/who-we-are/judicial-council AND... Wash Park UMC will continue to be a place where all are welcomed, where we learn to love like Jesus with radical and sometimes controversial love. Rev. Jamielee and I are committed to being a witness of inclusion and drawing the circle wide and wider still. We will continue to do our work as a community committed to love. To read WPUMC’s Welcoming Statement- http://www.washparkumc.org/ I don’t know what the future days hold, and look to our Mountain Sky Conference and Western Jurisdiction leadership to guide us into a new way of being the church. Rev. Jamielee and I are also available for coffee and conversation whenever you need. Please reach out to talk, cry, process and dream for the future. For more information on the Western Jurisdiction- http://westernjurisdictionumc.org/ahomeforall/ Peace and love to you all. Rev.
