Pastor's MessageHappy Thursday, WPUMC Family and Friends! Snowy spring days are hard for me, and this year it seems a bit harder. I know that we always "need the moisture" in our dry Colorado climate, but I long for the sun and the warmth of summer-on-the-way. On Sunday, one of our church members sent me this picture - do you see the green emerging? (Photo courtesy of David Trickett) The picture reminds me of the words of the Hymn of Promise by Natalie Sleeth: In the bulb, there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; In cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter there's a spring that waits to be, Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. May this day reveal new promises and hope for you! I'm keeping each of you in my prayers today, and always. Peace and love, Rev. Sandi We'd love to hear from you! Contact Rev. Sandi (pastor@washparkumc.org) or Rev. Jamielee (assocpastor@washparkumc.org) at any time, or fill out our online prayer card. Virtual Baby Shower for Rev. Jamielee and Jordan Don't forget that we are hosting a virtual baby shower for Rev. Jamielee and Jordan throughout this month. See Jamielee and Jordan's Amazon baby registry. Thursday Coffee Hours Postponed Rev. Sandi and Rev. Jamielee have decided to postpone coffee hours for now, and look forward to the time when we can gather together again in person over caffeine! But they are still available for you. Feel free to email and request a chat. ![]() New Online Book Study Rev. Sandi will be hosting a new online Book Study on Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again by Rachel Held Evans. Please email Rev. Sandi at pastor@washparkumc.org if you're interested, and we'll find a good time for the majority to meet weekly via Zoom. ![]() Hands-On Service--Reboot At the beginning of Lent, we offered a calendar of ways to participate in acts of service. Due to the COVID-19 shelter in place order, we had to stop all activities related to this initiative. It has been challenging to think about how we can serve others while holding to the integrity of the shelter in place order, and keeping our congregation safe by not engaging in risky activities outside of the home. With this goal in mind, we are REBOOTING our Hands-On Service effort with these suggestions and projects: FISH OF EAST DENVER - This is the food bank we support with our monthly food drives. At this time, they are in need of supplies, and we also encourage you to make a financial donation directly to them. DONATIONS FOR SOCKS & SANDWICHES - We are still engaging in our Socks and Sandwiches ministry in Civic Center Park. Our need for donations is critical at this time. You can purchase donations (peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, chips, applesauce, socks, and 8 oz water bottles) and drop them off in the identified donation bin currently located right inside the double glass doors of the main church entrance (accessible Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm). Additionally, you can order supplies online through our Amazon Wish List and have them shipped directly to the church! When ordering, please indicate in the delivery instructions that deliveries can only be received M-F, 9-5. MASKS - Are you looking for a way to help out during this time of quarantine? Do you have a sewing machine? If so, you're in luck because we need your help! We have reached out to AfterHours Denver and it turns out they are in need of some basic cloth masks for their homeless friends and neighbors that we serve every month. They are looking for anywhere between 150-300 masks to help folks stay safe during this difficult time of isolation. We're hoping to have these masks done within the next two weeks and to deliver them when we deliver our sandwiches on April 25th! The more makers we have, the fewer each of us has to make. Download the easy to follow instructions and pattern. If you're interested in contributing as a mask maker, offering supplies to our makers, or have any questions please email Rev. Jamielee at assocpastor@washparkumc.org to get on the Wash Park Mask Maker list! She will attempt to keep track of donations and masks for our Vision 2020! **Make sure you report your acts of service (hours spent, dollars given, items donated) by using this simple form. Our Goal - 2,020 Acts of Service in 2020! GIVING - Thank you for giving generously to support our ministries and pay our staff during this time. Here are the ways to donate to WPUMC.
