Habitat for Humanity: Volunteer Opportunities for Aug. & Sept.

8/12/2020

Picture
Habitat is opening opportunities to volunteer in August and September. These opportunities are open to a limited number of volunteers and on limited days to make it as safe as possible for everyone. Habitat implemented some excellent protocols during the workday to further ensure safety (small teams, social distancing, masks, hand washing, etc.).
To support the limited number of volunteers in this “interesting” time, Habitat is also expanding the type of volunteer opportunities. In this new approach, the number of slots shown below each description is the headcount allocation for our entire Loaves and Fishes coalition (all 11 churches). The volunteer opportunities include:
  • New construction–This opportunity is the traditional experience where we’ve volunteered in the past as part of Loaves and Fishes. It’s working on new homes at the Swansea site near I-25 and I-70. Two dates: Thursday, August 13th-4 people, 8-3:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 10th–4 people, 9-4:30 p.m.
  • Production shop–This opportunity is an important part of new construction (and has been for some time). In this environment, walls and stairs are built and then shipped by truck to the build site to increase efficiency in the build process. It is more environmentally controlled (warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer). It is on Raritan Way in Denver. They still coordinate small teams, social distancing and appropriate protocols.  Date: Friday, August 21st–5 people, 8-3:30 p.m. (The address for Production Shop is 520 Raritan Way, Denver, 80204.)
  • ReStore–You may volunteer in the Habitat ReStore that you know and love if you’ve ever dropped off good-condition furniture, cabinets, appliances, etc. or acquired lightly-used versions of the same. It is a valuable fundraising vehicle that helps pay for Habitat’s infrastructure. Work here can vary by preference, and Habitat will have protocols to ensure safety and comfort. Also, this is a half-day shift rather than full day and is located in Littleton. Date: Littleton ReStore –Thursday, September 24th–6 people, 1:30 –5 p.m.
  • Alternate Build Opportunities–This creative opportunity is for those who do not feel comfortable working on the construction site or the production shop. You build smaller projects that can be completed during the half-day shift like building Adirondack chairs for sale at the ReStore. This opportunity is located at the production shop on Raritan Way. It will be based outdoors at that location and will be a half-day shift. Date: Wednesday, August 26th, 9 -2 p.m. (This is a new time and date!) This activity will be able to accommodate8 people and take place outdoors at the Production Shop.
If there is an opportunity for which you’d like to volunteer, please contact Carol Nelson at 303.810.4635 oratcustomtrainingllc@q.com as soon as possible. Since there are a number of churches in our coalition, we will work to balance where there is higher demand.
Thank you for your support and interest in helping Habitat for Humanity and many deserving families!
